Michiel van Trommel

Michiel van Trommel is an orthopaedic surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in treating the most complex issues in the knee. He holds a PhD in meniscus repair. Patients from all over the Netherlands know how to find him to treat their knee problem.

He works as an orthopaedic surgeon at the BovenIJ Hospital in Amsterdam.

During his studies, he worked as a student researcher at the university. Michiel van Trommel's career began at Leyenburg Hospital in The Hague and Sofia Children's Hospital in Rotterdam, where he worked during his specialisation as an orthopaedic surgeon.

He then did a fellowship in Spinal Trauma at the Spinal Injuries Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London (RNOH) in 1996. He later did a fellowship at the Sports Medicine & Shoulder Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York. In 1997, he started working as Chef de Clinique Orthopaedics & Traumatology at the OLVG hospital in Amsterdam. Since 1998, Michiel van Trommel has worked as an orthopaedic surgeon at BovenIJ Hospital. He writes columns in the health section for the Telegraaf, a leading Dutch newspaper.
